A government teacher working at the Mandal Parishad Primary School was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly seeking sexual favors from students here in Ghatkesar. Ramanamurthy working at Edulabad government school is said to be sexually harassing the students. Fed up over the harassment, a student Bhagyalakshmi complained to SHE teams.

On Wednesday, She team personnel conducted an awareness event for children at MPPS, Edulabad about good touch and bad touch on Wednesday. After the end of the program, a few girls approached the She team personnel and said that K. Ramana Murthy (26), a secondary-grade teacher had been abusive towards them. They said that he touches the girls inappropriately and when they protested, he used to beat them mercilessly, citing some reason.

The accused was taken into custody by Ghatkesar police. An investigation is underway. Police said, “The teacher took pictures of the girls while they were doing yoga. Though he was warned about it by his colleagues and superiors, he did not change his attitude and continued harassing the girls.” A case has been registered against him under Sections 354 of the IPC, Sections 8 and 12 of the Pocso Act, Section 75 of JJ Act and Section 3 (1) (w) of the SC & ST Act. In March 2019, a school teacher, Nithya was arrested for harassing her students in Tiruvannamalai. Based on the complaint lodged by Nithya's husband Umesh Kumar, the police took her into custody.
