Dol Purnima or Dol Jatra is majorly a festival celebrated in West Bengal. It is dedicated to lord Krishna. On this day the idols of Lord Krishna and Radha are placed in beautifully decorated palanquin which is then taken all around the city. All the devotees take turn to swing and women also sing songs.
Dolyatra is a special festival of West Bengal because it is the last festival of Bengali Year.
In some of the places poojas and bhajans are also organised on this day. Phag, the popularly known as Colour powder is applied on everyone. The young ones following the tradition path have started to apply the phag on the photos of the dead ones and as a respect on the feet of elder ones.
Dolyatra depicts the love between Radha and Krishna and it is said that on this auspicious day lord Krishna expressed his love to Radha.
