BHOPAL: Now dogs will save tigers in jungles, don’t get surprised. In order to protect tiger in jungles from poachers, Madhya Pradesh government is all set to get some Belgian 'four-pawed' sleuths help to save tigers in jungle.
According to information, each of these will coming at a whopping cost of Rs 83,000. These Belgian Malinois are mid-sized hounds similar to their cousin, the German Shepherd in appearance. They are best when it comes to herding and tracking.
In collaboration with Kolkata NGO Saving Tiger the state government has bought the four dogs are being specially trained at the dog squad to take over the security measures at the four tiger reserves in the state. Post training they will be deployed in Panna, Pench, Kanha and Sanjay Tiger Reserves.
"The hounds are being trained by the MP police dog squad primarily to track odours of tigers and leopards as they have to serve at the tiger reserves to keep a check on poachers. Their handlers are from the forest department itself," said Anil Maheshwari, Commandant, 23rd Battalion, Madhya Pradesh.
Saving Tiger president Indrajit Sengupta said, "Along with MP, our NGO is associated with other states like Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, and Karnataka. We have provided tracker dogs in all these states. These dogs are from Bogadi Canal in Secunderabad."
