One Indian fisherman dies as Sri Lankan navy opens fire

The Indian fishermen were fishing between Danushkodi and Katchatheevu off the Tamil Nadu coast when they were fired upon by the Sri Lankan Navy. In the incident, one fisherman lost his life. The victim has been identified as a 22-year-old man whose body was brought to the Rameshwaram Government Hospital.

The case has been filed in the police station. As per the sources news,  around 3 more fishermen have suffered injuries in the firing which occurred in Adambalam, that comes under Indian territory.

The Sri Lankan Navy last week detained 15 fishermen and all their equipment and fishing gear was taken away.

Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy yesterday wrote to centre in which it is mentioned that concrete steps are not taken to stop the harassment of fishermen from Tamil Nadu.
