New Delhi: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a directive to the Ministry of Agriculture to distribute the equipment on priority basis to farmers of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to deal with the case of stubble burning by farmers. This is the first direct intervention by PM Modi on the issue of air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

He held a review meeting on air pollution in the northern states yesterday. Stubble burning by farmers in these states, especially in Punjab, has been identified as a major cause of air pollution in the Delhi-NCR region. A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said that PM Modi has issued a directive to the Ministry of Agriculture on this issue to distribute the equipment to farmers of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Haryana on a priority basis so that to prevent incidents.
