Apple Cider Vinegar is one of Earth Clinic's most popular remedies. Hundreds of readers have found relief from health problems including arthritis, weight problems, high blood pressure, heartburn, PMS, acne, diarrhoea, vomiting, etc.

Along with positives comes negatives too. Here are some of the side effects of ACV.

Drug Reactions

Since it is acidic in nature, ACV can easily react with some drugs like laxatives, diuretics, and insulin. Since ACV has a direct effect on the insulin levels and blood sugar, it may prove to be highly hazardous when taken with blood pressure and diabetes medications.

Tooth Enamel Erosion

Acidity in any form, including tea, coffee, wine, soda, and apple cider vinegar weakens tooth enamel. After consuming mixture of apple cider vinegar and water, rinse your mouth out well. Make sure to use a straw so it bypasses your teeth altogether.

Loss of Potassium

The body uses potassium to maintain proper functioning of the nerves and muscles. Apple cider vinegar can adversely interact with your prescription and lead to low potassium levels. Low potassium, medically referred to as hypokalemia, causes constipation, weakness and muscle cramps.

Damages Stomach Walls

Proponents think that the acid in cider vinegar balances the overall PH content in the stomach. Consequently, it protects the stomach from releasing unwanted acids and thus eliminates acid reflux and other digestive problems. However, prolonged use may show adverse effects on the stomach.

Burn Skin and Throat

Vinegar has been known to irritate or even burn skin when used at full-strength. The strong acid in apple cider vinegar can irritate the throat and cause it to become sore.

Bone density

Apple cider vinegar is not recommended for those with osteoporosis as it has been known to lower bone density.
