Bhubaneswar: A court in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district has sentenced three persons to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for raping a differently-abled minor girl five years ago. Special POCSO Court Judge Sumita Jena said in her order that three persons were found guilty in the rape case and sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 for each of the two convicts and Rs 5,000 for the other. Special Public Prosecutor Abhina Patnaik said the court has directed the Mayurbhanj District Legal Services Authority to pay Rs 7 lakh as compensation to the victim. After the minor girl became pregnant, her father lodged a complaint at Kuliyana police station in 2017. The police registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested the accused. About 15 days ago, three minor boys, including an engineering diploma student, were arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl (12). They also demanded money from the victim. When he did not succeed in this, the video of the rape of the girl was posted on social media platforms. The incident took place in Odisha's Jajpur district, police said. The victim and the accused live in the same village under the Jenapur police station area of the district. "The incident took place a few days ago, but the girl did not tell her parents about the happening until a video of the incident went viral on social media platforms," police said.
