Bangladesh: 17 people killed in 6 AC blast in mosque

Dhaka: At 17 people have lost their lives so far in a fire that erupted at a mosque in Bangladesh. The deceased include a 7-year-old child. 20 people have been severely scorched in the incident. They are undergoing treatment at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastics Sergei Centre in Dhaka. In fact, an air conditioner at a mosque in the outskirts of Bangladesh's capital Dhaka was blasted on Friday. There were 6 air conditioners that exploded and the entire mosque was engulfed in flames. When the fire broke out at the mosque, people were praying here.

Fire department officials say the fire erupted after a light spark in the ricci gas from the pipeline. The blast followed all the AC on the ground floor of the mosque and the ground floor of the mosque caught fire.  Abdullah al-Arfin, deputy assistant director of the fire service of Narayanganj, informed that a gas pipeline goes under the mosque. We suspect that the gas from the pipe gathered behind the windows and when someone got the fan or ac on or off, it exploded.

Recently, the mosque management had complained about gas leakage from the pipeline in the gas company. The Bangladesh police is investigating the case. The gas supplying company has also started a separate investigation.
