The Indian Army's Lekhapani Battalion, which also has a base at Miao in Changlang district, has been "thwarting every malicious scheme of rebel groups active in the region" in its ongoing attempts to restore peace in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. On Tuesday, the army forced two hardcore cadres of the All Adivasi National Liberation Army (AANLA) to surrender. Porimal Singh and Ram Kumar, both from Joypur, are among militants who surrendered. They've been a part of the outfit since 2009. However, after more than a decade in the outfit, both cadres opted to return to the mainstream. The hardline cadres surrendered to the army at the Lekhapani police station, carrying two weapons and seven live rounds, as well as AANLA ID cards. "These successful operations reflect the Indian Army's strong determination against insurgent groups' malicious aspirations for a peaceful and prosperous North East," according to a statement.
