Kolkata: The Enforcement Directorate (ED), the central probe agency, on Wednesday (July 27) raided three places around Kolkata in connection with the teacher recruitment scam. Meanwhile, the ED recovered around 29 crore cash and 5 kg of gold from another flat in Belgharia of actress Arpita Mukherjee. It took ED about 10 hours to count the money. The most surprising thing is that Arpita had hidden this money in the toilet of the flat. In fact, the investigating agency had recently arrested Partha Chatterjee, a minister in the Mamata government in West Bengal, in a case related to the teacher recruitment scam. Arpita Mukherjee is considered to be very special to Partha Chatterjee. Five days ago, the ED had recovered 21 crores in cash and all the valuables from Arpita's flat. The ED arrested Arpita on July 23. At the same time, since this action of the ED, the opposition party has been demanding the expulsion of Partha Chatterjee from the cabinet of the Trinamool Congress (TMC). Not only this, but the investigating agency probing the money trail in the teachers' recruitment scam also questioned TMC MLA Manik Bhattacharya, the former head of the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education. The ED raided several locations in South Kolkata's Rajdanga and Belgharia on Wednesday morning, allegedly belonging to Arpita Mukherjee. During the interrogation of the investigating agency, Arpita Mukherjee disclosed these properties. ED had to break the door to enter these flats, as ED could not find the keys to them. Speaking to the media, ED officials said, "We have received a good amount of money from a flat in a housing complex. Three note-counting machines had to be installed to make the cash count. Not only this but many important documents have also been recovered from the flat. To a question on the minister and Mukherjee's questioning, the ED official informed that Arpita is cooperating in the investigation while Partha Chatterjee is not doing so.
