Indian-origin woman in Singapore has been sentenced to 16 months in prison, with the judge remarking that her attempt to defraud the government would have been at the expense of taxpayers' money intended for the COVID-19 Support Grant. Rajagopal Malini, 48, committed the crimes between July and September of last year, including falsifying a termination letter from the condominium where she worked in order to obtain funds from the COVID-19 Support Grant. Malini's attempt to defraud the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) would have been at the expense of taxpayers' money, according to District Judge Marvin Bay, who sentenced her on Friday. Rajagopal's falsified letter, dated August 1, 2020, bore the Euphony Gardens condominium letterhead, according to Deputy Public Prosecutor Stacey Fernandez, who had access to the letterhead on her office computer, which she used to compose notices and correspondences with the condo's tenants. The Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) discovered her fraud when the condominium management alerted them that the contents of the termination letter dated August 1, 2020 were bogus.
