ADR Report: Karnataka's 97% of Ministers are Crorepatis, DK Shivakumar the richest

The Karnataka cabinet was expanded on May 27 and is now complete with 32 ministers. 

According to a report by the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), 24 of the 32 ministers are the subject of active criminal investigations, and 31 (97%) of them are crorepatis. The average amount of assets reported by the ministers was Rs. 119.06 crore, with DK Shivakumar, the deputy chief minister of Karnataka, reporting the highest amount at Rs. 1,413.80 crore.

The minister from the Mudhol (SC) constituency, Timmapur Ramappa Balappa, disclosed the fewest assets totaling Rs. 58.56 lakh.

Laxmi R. Hebbalkar, the only female member of parliament from the Belgaum seat, disclosed assets totaling more than Rs. 13 crore and liabilities above Rs. 5 crore. Her assets were also listed in the ADR report.

According to the ADR report, 6 ministers out of 32 claimed to have educational backgrounds ranging from 8th pass to 12th pass. 24 ministers have said they had graduate degrees, compared to the 2 ministers who have diplomas.

The ADR report stated that when asked about their age, 18 (56%) ministers stated that they were between the ages of 41 and 60, while 14 (44%) ministers stated that they were between the ages of 61 and 80.

Monday saw the distribution of the new Cabinet's portfolios, with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah keeping important positions in the newly formed Karnataka government, including those of Finance, Cabinet Affairs, and Intelligence, while his deputy DK Shivakumar will be in charge of Major and Medium Irrigation and Bengaluru City Development.

Law, parliamentary affairs, legislation, and tourism are all given to HK Patil. According to reports, Dinesh Gundu Rao will receive Health and Family Welfare, while Krishna Byregowda will receive Revenue (Excluding Muzrai).
