Agriculture Minister Tomar appeals to farmers to end agitation

New Delhi: On Saturday, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar asked farmers protesting three farm regulations on the city's outskirts to call off their demonstrations and return home, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's announcement that the legislation will be repealed.

"On the first day of the winter session, a bill to repeal the three farm laws will be introduced in Parliament (on November 29). Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced the formation of a committee to discuss crop diversification, zero-budget farming, and improving the MSP system's transparency and effectiveness. Farmers' organisations will be represented on this committee "Tomar remarked.

"Farmers' desire for Minimum Support Price (MSP) has been met with the formation of this committee. Farmers' associations had pushed for the decriminalisation of stubble burning. This demand has also been accepted by the Indian government "he stated "It is pointless to continue farmers' protests after the repeal of the three farm legislation was announced. I urge farmers to put an end to their protests and return home "he stated

However, Bharatiya Kisan Union chairman Rakesh Tikait said, farmers will return home when the government fulfils their demand for a law on Minimum Support Price.
