CHENNAI: The National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020 recognises all Indian languages as national languages, said Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The country has the knowledge capacity to find sustainable solutions at a global level, he added in his speech at the 36th convocation ceremony of SASTRA considered to be University in Thanjavur.
The mother tongue has a beneficial effect on promoting critical thinking and innovation, said Pradhan, who is also the Minister of Entrepreneurship and Skill Development. It also has potential in terms of teaching methodologies and learning results. He added that it was critical to close the skills gap and that entrepreneurship should be encouraged. Initiatives for utilising and integrating information from ancient Indian literature, according to Pradhan, are already in existence.
On this occasion, he awarded Chamu Krishna Shastry, Chairman of the Bharathiya Basha Samiti, a Doctor of Letters and a Doctor of Science to Krishnaswami Alldi, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Florida.
The Minister said, the Blueprint for Amrit Kaal's (vision for the next 25 years) goal of giving India the digital leadership it deserves, 5G connection will be available in six lakh villages by 2023, benefiting 30 lakh families.
Folklore and antiquated literature were being used as vehicles for integrating and utilising knowledge in Indian knowledge systems. He said, India has the knowledge capacity to identify long-term solutions on a global scale.
On this occasion, the Minister awarded Chamu Krishna Shastry, Chairman of the Bharatiya Basha Samiti, a Doctor of Letters and Krishaswami Alldi, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Florida and Chairman of the SASTRA - Ramanuam Prize Committee, a Doctor of Science (honoris causa). Chancellor of the deemed university R. Sethuraman conferred the degrees and administered pledge to the graduands.
S. Vaidhyasubramaniam, vice chancellor, listed the accomplishments of the institution during the previous year and stated that 75 pieces of course-related reading material will be translated from English to Tamil within a year in accordance with NEP 2020.
