LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Assembly's brief monsoon session, which starts on Monday, will stand apart because a day will be set aside solely for female members.

"As per the agenda that the business advisory committee prepared for the house from September 19 to 23, September 22 has been set aside for women members. After the women-only question period on this particular day, only the female members will be permitted to speak "Satish Mahana, the speaker, remarked.

This is the first time that a practise of this nature has been implemented.

At a recent meeting with a group of female MLAs, Speaker Mahana gave them the assurance that a day will be set aside for them during the monsoon session.

Major opposition parties have intensified their preparations for the brief session in which they will question the state government about the state of law and order, inflation, and other matters of public interest.

After expressing condolences for the passing of BJP sitting member Arvind Giri from Lakhimpur Kheri's Gola Gokarannath assembly constituency, the state assembly will adjourn for the day on Monday. Early this month, Giri passed away.

The state government also plans to conduct legislative activity, including the introduction of fresh legislation and the replacement of existing legislation for ordinances that were passed following the state assembly's budget session.

Khanna allegedly told the leaders of several political parties that whether or not the Monsoon session would have additional sittings depended on how the opposition members behaved in the House.

For the monsoon session, the state assembly's facilities were updated, including the galleries and lobbies. "Yes, the galleries now have a fresh look. Also, changes have been done to the house's interior and lobbies "Mahana said.

On Monday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will also open a three-day health camp for legislators within the state legislature building. For the legislators at the health camp, which will be operational for three days, a team of six doctors has been deployed.  At the secretariat pharmacy, room has been set out for women members to undergo medical examinations.
