'Allah punished Turkey instead of Sweden', Taslima Nasreen's Tweet on burning Quran incident

New Delhi: The devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria has caused such devastation that only mourning and deaths are visible all around. More than 21 thousand people have lost their lives in this devastating incident and more than 50 thousand are still struggling for life and death in the hospitals. Meanwhile, Exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen has targeted radical Islamists. In her tweet, she mentioned the incident of burning the Quran in Sweden.

Taslima Nasreen wrote in her tweet, 'Islamists were saying that Allah will punish Sweden because people in Sweden were burning the Quran, but instead, Allah punished Turkey. In fact, earthquakes occur in prone areas. It has nothing to do with Allah.' On January 21, a copy of the Quran was allegedly burnt during a protest outside the Turkish embassy in Sweden. During this time there were 3 different protests in Sweden. One was against Turkey, the other was in favor of the Kurds and the third was against Sweden for joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). The incident evoked sharp reactions from Islamic countries like Turkey and Pakistan.

According to a report, Rasmus Paludan, leader of the Danish far-right political party Hard Line, burned a copy of the Quran in front of the Turkish embassy. Even before this they had burnt copies of the Quran. Paludan holds Swedish citizenship. Expressing disappointment over the incident, Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Bilstrom said, 'Sweden has freedom of expression, but this does not mean that the Swedish government supports this incident.' Earlier, Turkey summoned the Swedish ambassador to appeal for action against the protests.
