London Olympics bronze medal champion and former world number one shuttler Saina Nehwal has not yet joined the national camp at Gopichand Academy. The reason for Saina's displeasure is to keep her husband Parupalli Kashyap out of the Olympic preparations camp. Saina has requested the Sports Authority of India and Badminton Association of India to keep Kashyap in the camp, given the chances of qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics, but she decided to distance herself from the camp if no decision was taken. In a letter written to Sports Authority of India and BAI, Saina has said that she is not asking to include a lower-ranked shuttler in the camp just because he is Saina's husband. There is a solid reason behind this. Kashyap's world ranking is currently 25. Chances of him qualifying for the Tokyo Olympics are more. In the near future BWF tournaments, he can meet the ends by performing well. It would not be right to dismiss him from the preparations for the Olympics. Due to non-recognition of BAI, the Sports Authority of India camped in Hyderabad for eight shuttlers from August 7. Only four of the eight shuttlers PV Sindhu, Sikki Reddy, B. Sai Praneeth, Srikanth Kidambi are doing preparations. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty have not reached the camp. Ashwani Ponnappa is preparing at the Prakash Padukone Academy in Bangalore, and Saina is preparing with Gopi Academy as well as with Kashyap and other national-level shuttlers.
