Apple is getting ready for the iPhone 15 series

USA: Apple is getting ready for the 15-series iPhone. Even though the launch is still months away, information about the upcoming iPhone lineup is constantly being leaked by the rumour mill. According to tipster Ice Universe, the iPhone 15 Pro Max is now expected to set a new standard for thin bezels. The flagship phone reportedly has borders that are 1.55mm super thin.

In an effort to increase the screen-to-body ratio, smartphone manufacturers have been working hard to reduce the display borders. Curved edges have already been shown to help reduce side bezels, but no OEM has yet really pushed the display to its absolute limit. If the most recent rumours are to be believed, Apple may have finally discovered a way to accomplish this.

Ice Universe predicts that the iPhone 15 Pro Max will break the previous record for thin bezels. The display of the device will have a 1.55mm border around it. In contrast, the bezels on the iPhone 14 Pro Max are 2.17mm thick. The Xiaomi 13 currently has the thinnest smartphone bezels (1.81mm), followed by the Samsung Galaxy 23 (1.95mm).

The iPhone 15 Pro models were said to have thinner bezels than the vanilla models when the display panels for the iPhone 15 series were first revealed in a video a few weeks ago. According to recent CAD renderings, the iPhone 15 Pro will have extremely thin bezels, just like its Max sibling.

For the entire iPhone 15 series, Apple is moving away from the Lightning connector and towards the Type-C connector. According to rumours, Foxconn will keep the Type-C ports that Apple manufactures in large quantities encrypted in order to control the speed of charging and data transfer.

This, however, might go against the EU's efforts to harmonise fast-charging standards. Additionally, a "Dynamic Island" seen on 14 Pro variants will be present on all iPhone 15 models.

The edges of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max are rumoured to be slightly curved. Additionally, a slightly thicker camera layout as well as capacitive volume up/down and power buttons may be introduced.

The "ProMotion" display is probably only going to be available on Pro-monikered devices. According to rumours, the non-Pro models will have 60Hz OLED displays, just like the iPhone 14 and 14 Plus.
