USA: The most recent March Pixel Feature Drop software update includes fall detection for the Google Pixel Watch. As the name suggests, the feature can determine if you've taken a heavy fall and will notify emergency services if you don't move after a certain amount of time. Here's how the feature works and how to activate it.

If you've fallen and your watch notices that you haven't moved for about 30 seconds, it will vibrate, sound an alarm, and show a notification on the watch face if you have one.

If the notification was a false alarm, you can select "I'm fine" to turn it off. Otherwise, select "I've fallen and need help" to connect to emergency responders.

The alarm will sound for about a minute, getting louder in the last few seconds if you are not in a position to answer. If you still haven't answered, your watch will automatically try to contact emergency services and send an automated message asking for help, wherever you are.

Not sure whether your Pixel Watch can differentiate between a real fall and a minor stumble? It can differentiate between the two, yes. It is claimed that the built-in motion sensor and algorithms were created in this way.

The feature has also been tested against tough exercises like burpees and jumping, to reduce the chances of inadvertently setting off false alarms.

The system has been trained on "a wide variety of human and simulated fall data and other motion patterns," according to Google, in order to accurately detect a real fall and reduce the likelihood of false alarms.

Here's how you can activate the fall detection feature on your Pixel Watch. Go to the Google Pixel Watch app on your phone. Turn on "Fall Detection" by selecting "Watch Preferences", then tapping on "Security & Emergency".

From the Personal Safety app, you can also turn on this feature on your Pixel Watch. However, currently only a few countries support this feature.
