The Assam Cabinet recently met to discuss crucial decisions, one being the declaration of a dry day on January 22 to mark the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, they approved a new scheme called the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, aimed at providing financial aid to rural women entrepreneurs. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media platform X (previously known as Twitter) to announce the decisions made during the meeting. He stated, "Decisions we took in today’s meeting of the #AssamCabinet- Dry Day on 22.01.2024 on the occasion of Pran Pratishtha of Shri Ram Lalla Virajman -Approval to Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan- a new scheme to financially support rural women entrepreneurs." However, Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, Numal Momin, criticized AIUDF Chief and Lok Sabha MP Badruddin Ajmal for advising Muslims to avoid travel by train between January 20 and 26 during the Ram Temple consecration. Momin urged Ajmal to apologize to the nation and the global Hindu community for his statement. Ajmal had cautioned Muslims during a gathering in Barpeta, Assam, saying, "We will have to be cautious. Muslims should avoid traveling from January 20 to 25. The entire world will witness the idol of Ram Lalla being placed in Ram Janmabhoomi. Lakhs of people will travel by buses, trains, aeroplanes, etc. We will have to maintain peace." Reacting to Ajmal's statement, Momin stated, "I don't believe that Badruddin Ajmal's statement was appropriate. He should apologize to the people of our nation for the statement that hurt millions of Hindus worldwide." Regarding the impending consecration, Momin emphasized its historical significance for India. He said, "The Praan Pratistha of Lord Sri Ram on January 22 is a pivotal and monumental moment for our nation." Furthermore, Momin called Ajmal's remarks "immature and unnecessary." He urged Ajmal to collaborate with authorities if he possesses information about a potential terrorist threat on trains, so appropriate government actions can be taken.
