Kolkata: A cash amount of 40 thousand rupees is being provided by the government to those who marry Bengali girls. Yes, Bengali Hindu bride or groom living in Assam, who chooses their life partner from local (Assam) people, will be given financial assistance of Rs. This assistance will be provided to them under a scheme proposed by the State Linguistic Minorities Development Board. Through this, the effort is to strengthen the relationship between the two communities. Alok Kumar Ghosh, Chairman of the Board, says that a couple who marry in a separate community are usually evicted from the property. Along with this, they also face social exclusion. It is our endeavor that along with opening such couple's shop, beauty salon, assistance should also be given to farming. The proposal was presented to the state government two days ago. For this, a website has also been developed, where Bengali-Assamese Hindu couple can register their information online. While Ghosh claimed that the initiative would lead to prosperity, the All Assam Minority Students Union termed it divisive and accused the board of trying to polarize the religion.
