A committee appointed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, which monitors India's security issue, has suggested that the cut-off of issuing Inner Line Permits (ILPs) to define the original inhabitants of Assam and control the movement of people outside the state. The year should be 1951. Sources gave this information on Monday.

Proposals to be approved in cabinet meeting today

The committee has also suggested two formulas for reservation of seats for the original residents in Assam's Assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies. This includes a 67% reservation suggestion for them.

Government of Goa withdrew the order to impose Section 144

On this matter, the Ministry had constituted a high-level committee to suggest measures to provide security standards under the Constitution to the original inhabitants of Assam. Sources said that the 13-member committee headed by Justice (retd) Viplav Kumar Sharma finalized the report last week. The committee told the ministry that it is ready to submit the report to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and also sought time to meet him. The report can be submitted to the Ministry of Home Affairs this week. According to sources, the committee unanimously recommended that those who were residents of Assam in 1951 and their descendants be considered as the original inhabitants of the state, irrespective of their community, caste, language or religion.
