Assam Police takes action against drug dealers, 441 smugglers arrested, operation underway

Guwahati: Assam Police has arrested more than 450 people under an order issued by Himanta Biswa Sarma to take action against drug dealers after taking over as CM on May 10. Police registered 264 cases and arrested 441 people during May 10 to May 31, while the 'fight against drugs' continues with daily arrests in various districts of the state.

In fact, CM Sarma had recently said that the state government aims to create a drug free society and assam police will take a tough stand against drug purchaseand sale. A police spokesman said that the state police had launched a massive case last month against illegal drug trafficking and the drug peddlers network has been largely weakened.

So far, police have seized 6.57 kg of heroin, 5,785.85 kg of ganja, 92,366 tablets of yaba and other narcotics. Assam Police has also seized 20 grams of morphine and 426 grams of opium along with Rs 17,11,130 cash. The spokesperson said that the police will continue their war against drug peddlers in the state and ensure that the society is free from the problem of drugs.
