Padma Shri awardee Laxminandan Bora passes away, CM Himanta Sarma condoles

Guwahati: Famous Assam litterateur Laxminandan Bora passed away on Thursday at a private hospital in Guwahati due to health complications arising after corona. This information was given by the doctors. Bora was 89 years old. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

The Padma Shri awardee Bora was confirmed infected on May 20 and was admitted to the hospital. He had recovered from corona, but was suffering from other health problems and was undergoing treatment. He wrote more than 60 books, mostly novels and compilations of short stories. His first novel 'Ganga Silonir Pakhi' was translated into 11 languages and was also made into a movie in 1976. Sahitya Akademi awardee Bora had been the head of assam sahitya sabha.

He was also awarded the Saraswati Samman and the Assam Valley Literary Award. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has condoled the death of Bora. He said the funeral of the litterateur will be performed with full state honours.
