Assam: Trains cancelled should be resumed, APCC demands

On Saturday, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee requested the resumption of all 12 trains that had been secretly cancelled across the state.

APCC spokesperson Dilip Kumar Sharma claimed during a press conference that the trains were halted for a few months because of a COVID-19 epidemic, but that now that the situation has eased, 12 trains from Assam have been discreetly cancelled under the guise of lockdown.

The trains cancelled from Assam are–

1207 Dibrugarh Shatabdi 15942 Jhajha Express 12525 Kolkata Superfast 15617 Mariani Intercity 1571 Kamakhya Intercity 15911 Naharlagun Intercity 15605 Furkating Intercity 55903 Mariani Passenger 65911 Dangori passenger 5565 Silchar Passenger 55605 Murkongselek Passenger 55618 New Bangaigaon Passenger

“It is evident that travelling by bus and other modes of road transportation has always been expensive and commuters have always been complaining about it. The government should take this into consideration but without any word, the railways just cancelled some of the most important trains for the commuters”, he added.

"It is rather shocking to see that even the state has maintained its quiet on the subject," he continued."Just when we thought the trains were being cancelled," the APCC stated, "we saw that the railroads were concealing the development of some trains in the state, reducing the number of station stoppages while increasing fares by up to 300 percent."

Dilip went on to say that these concerns could never be acceptable, and that the APCC demanded that rail services be restored promptly. "We are not opposed to railway upgrades," he said, "but it is not a reasonable point to simply decrease stops." To relieve normal passengers, the railways should simply introduce new fast trains." According to the APCC representative, even farmers who use railways to transport their crops are disappointed by the current scenario and price hikes.
