Mumbai: On the birth anniversary of freedom fighter Veer Savarkar, the Eknath Shinde government of Maharashtra has made a big announcement. Chief Minister Shinde has said that the Bandra-Versova Sea Link Bridge will be named after Veer Savarkar. Along with this, he has also announced to give Veer Savarkar Bravery Award to those who have done remarkable work in different fields. In fact, on Sunday (May 28), the 140th birth anniversary of Veer Savarkar was being celebrated across the country, PM Modi also paid tribute to him in the new Parliament building. Speaking to the media on the occasion, CM Eknath Shinde said, "The government is celebrating Veer Savarkar Jayanti as 'Veer Savarkar Gaurav Diwas'. The government has decided to rename the Bandra-Versova Sea Link as 'Swatantryaveer Savarkar Bandra-Versova Samudra Setu'. It has also been decided to give Veer Savarkar Bravery Awards to people who have done commendable work in various fields." Earlier, speaking at an event in Delhi, Chief Minister Shinde said some people were deliberately defaming Veer Savarkar's name just for their own selfish interests. Some people fear that if Savarkar's ideas become popular in the society, his shop will be closed. Imagine how frightened these people are. Even after 57 years of Savarkar's death, they continue to oppose him. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis thanked Shinde for naming the Bandra-Versova Sea Link Bridge after Veer Savarkar.
