Bathukamma: Nine-day flower festival begins in the city with a colorful procession

Hyderabad: A nine-day long flower festival (Bathukamma) began in the city with women dressed in exquisite traditional costumes and a colorful procession and enthusiasm. On Wednesday, residential colonies, apartments and temples across the city were decorated with flowers to celebrate the festival of flowers and women gathered for the festival and sang and danced around the specially arranged Bathukamma. Later immersed Bathukamma in the nearest water body.

The festival highlights the role of life-giving women who empower the entire society, besides reminding us to protect and celebrate nature. On the first day at Raj Bhavan, Governor Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan along with women members of the Raj Bhavan family participated in the celebration. MLC Kalvakuntala Kavita took to Twitter to wish the women of the state a happy Bathukamma.

Bathukamma festival is celebrated in honor of Goddess Gauri, who represents the cultural spirit of Telangana. Women arrange the flowers into colorful cones, and the leaves and flowers used in the manufacture of 'Bathukamma' claim medicinal values.
