KOLKATA: The West Bengal government on Wednesday revoked the security cover of 3-time TMC MLA and minister of state for consumer affairs Srikant Mahata after he questioned the credibility and morality of the celebrity leaders in the party. The state government withdrew the security he was entitled to as a minister of state after he was censured and given a show-cause notice for remarks in which he asserted that celebrity leaders like Mimi Chakraborty, Nusrat Jahan, June Malia, and Saayoni Ghosh were assets for the party despite embezzling money. sources from the state home department said, he would only be given a bodyguard, which is what he is entitled to as an elected member, and his other security guards would be asked to report back to the police lines. Despite Mahata's apology and explanation that he was only acting out of emotion, the development nevertheless takes place. Malia is an elected MLA from the Midnapore Assembly constituency, whereas Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan represent the Trinamool Congress in the Lok Sabha from the Jadavpur and Basirhat constituencies, respectively. Saayoni Ghosh, on the other hand, is the West Bengal state president of the Trinamool Congress's youth organisation. Mahata is now in Kolkata for a state cabinet meeting that will be presided over by the chief minister. The next concern is if he will also be shown the exits from the ministry after removing his guards. On condition of strict anonymity, a state cabinet member remarked, "It is now to be seen what decision Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee chooses in the cabinet meeting today."
