Bhubaneswar-Rangeilunda Flight Service Begins

BHUBANESWAR: Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, officially launched the first non-scheduled flight service between Bhubaneswar and Rangeilunda in the Ganjam district on Sunday.

"The Government of Odisha has commenced the totally State sponsored flight operation in Bhubaneswar-Rangeilunda (Berhampur) route to boost air connectivity from the state capital to other cities and big areas," The long-standing demand for flight operation to Rangeilunda has been fulfilled," the CMO stated in a release.

Air travel would link Temple City Bhubaneswar in Ganjam with the Silk City Berhampur, cutting the distance to just one hour. Southern Odisha's economic hub, Berhampur, has experienced tremendous population and industrial growth.

The presence of attractive places and tourist destinations like Tampara Lake, Chilika Lake, Gopalpur Beach, Tara Tarini Temple, Rushikulya River etc. will attract many tourists after air connectivity at Rangeilunda. Senior Doctors, Professors of MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur University, IREL, IISER and businessmen from the city will fly out and in frequently

Earlier, the Rangeilunda airstrip was run only on handful of occasions for flight operations during the arrival of dignitaries. M/s India One Air will operate in the Bhubaneswar-Rangeilunda route using a 9-seater small aircraft.

"The Chief Minister has always emphasised the need to develop and change every area of Odisha. The local population desperately desired an airport at Rangeilunda to connect to the capital city in order to boost regional economic activities.
