Rampur: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Azam Khan has got a big setback from the top court. In fact, Azam Khan had sought an interim bail plea from the apex court to campaign in the UP assembly elections. However, the Supreme Court has categorically refused to grant bail to Khan. The court has asked Azam Khan to approach the concerned court with his petition. SP MP from Rampur, Azam Khan, imprisoned in Sitapur Jail of UP for nearly two years, had applied for release on interim bail in the apex court. Azam Khan had said in his petition that, 'the state government is unnecessarily hanging the prosecution process in the cases registered against him, so that he cannot participate in the election campaign.' Khan had told the court that, 'In the courts of the state. Applications have been made in three different cases for release on bail. But the prosecution department of the government is deliberately negligent in that. Let us inform that Azam Khan was arrested in February 2020 along with his son and wife in various cases of land grabbing, encroachment and providing fake birth certificates. However, his wife and son were later released on bail. SP leader Azam Khan is an MP from Rampur Lok Sabha seat in Uttar Pradesh. Earlier, he had also been a minister in the UP cabinet.
