Patna: Bihar has become the first state to provide pension to all the elderly aged 60 years and above. The Bihar government has launched the Universal Old Age Pension Scheme on Friday. Under the scheme, all the elderly in 60 years and above will get a pension of Rs 400 per month. The scheme will benefit all castes and elderly people of every category who do not get any pension from the Centre or the state government so far. STs, widows, women and the disabled get it. However, every male or woman in Bihar who is 60 years of age or above and does not get pension from the state government or central government so far, the Chief Minister will be the pensioner under the old age pension scheme. Train coming from Pakistan not found entry into India Launching the scheme at a function organised by Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said, the scheme will benefit about 35 to 36 lakh elderly people who do not get pension under any scheme so far. Nitish Kumar said, the pension scheme will bring an additional burden of 1800 crore rupees on the state exchequer.
