External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar has held discussions with leaders from Asia, Europe, and Latin America on the sidelines of the United Nations high-level meetings. These engagements aimed to enhance bilateral relations and exchange views on critical international and regional matters. Jaishankar began his meetings with France’s new Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barro, where they discussed regional issues and deepened India’s strategic ties with France. After the meeting, Jaishankar shared on X that they had "a useful exchange of views on major regional issues." In another significant meeting, Jaishankar met the European Union's Commissioner for Climate Action, Wopke Hoekstra. He expressed appreciation for Hoekstra's support in strengthening India-European Union relations. Jaishankar posted, "Appreciate his support for deepening India-European Union partnership." Hoekstra also shared on X his enthusiasm for working closely with India on matters related to geopolitics, climate, and business, further enhancing their collaboration. Spain's Foreign Minister, Jose Manuel Albares, emphasized India's importance on the global stage, calling India "an essential global actor and priority partner for Spain." Their conversation covered bilateral relations, trade, culture, and significant global issues such as the Middle East, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific region. Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg of Malta highlighted discussions with Jaishankar on the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, set to take place next month in Samoa. They also explored global solutions to challenges like sustainable development and human rights protection. Borg noted their aim to intensify cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including trade relations. Jaishankar also met Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos, where they focused on developments in West Asia and their broader implications. Discussions around Ukraine were held during his meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi of Moldova, with Jaishankar emphasizing partnerships in sectors like pharmaceuticals, health, education, and trade. In his meeting with Bolivia’s Foreign Minister Celinda Sosa Lunda, Jaishankar posted about advancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations. Further strengthening ties in the Caribbean, Jaishankar met with Hugh Hilton Todd, the Foreign Minister of Guyana, and noted that their bilateral partnership has been steadily progressing. On the regional front, Yemen's Vice President Aidaros Alzubidi discussed overlapping interests with Jaishankar, particularly regarding regional stability and maritime security in the Red Sea. Alzubidi expressed his appreciation for India’s role in fostering stability in the region, to which Jaishankar reiterated India's commitment to a peaceful and prosperous Yemen. Yemen, strategically located on the Red Sea, remains embroiled in a civil war that threatens shipping routes in the region. Jaishankar assured India's ongoing support for a stable Yemen.
