External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, during his visit to Geneva, addressed the ongoing trade relationship between India and China. He described the economic relationship as "unfair" and "imbalanced" while highlighting that 75% of the border disengagement issues have been resolved.

Speaking at an event, Jaishankar emphasized India's cautious approach to its business dealings with China. He reiterated that while India is open to trade, it will selectively engage with China based on specific sectors, particularly after the Galwan clash in 2020. The violent incident significantly strained relations between the two countries, leading to tightened scrutiny of Chinese investments and a halt on major joint projects.

Although India has blocked visas for Chinese nationals and halted investments since 2020, Jaishankar noted that the government is considering easing restrictions for Chinese technicians. This move comes amid discussions on whether India should integrate into China's supply chain or attract foreign direct investment (FDI) from China to bolster its export market.

Jaishankar’s visit to Geneva, scheduled for September 12-13, 2024, includes meetings with representatives from international organizations and his Swiss counterpart to further enhance India-Switzerland relations.
