External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar met with Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Saudi Arabia on Monday to discuss enhancing bilateral relations between India and Qatar.
Jaishankar shared insights from the meeting, saying, “Began the day with a good meeting with PM & FM of Qatar @MBA_AlThani_. Discussed taking India-Qatar bilateral ties forward. Appreciated his insights and assessments on regional developments.”
The two leaders had previously met in Doha in June, focusing on fortifying ties in various sectors and addressing regional issues. Jaishankar extended warm greetings from Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Qatar's Amir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the Qatar PM.
He highlighted the strong India-Qatar relationship, emphasizing collaboration in political, trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges.
Jaishankar, who is in Riyadh for the First India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, was welcomed by Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister for Protocol Affairs, Abdulmajeed Al Smari. During his visit, he explored the Saudi National Museum and the King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives. On social media, he noted, “Visited the Saudi National Museum and King Abdulaziz Foundation for Research and Archives in Riyadh. Brought out India’s deep historical connect that now serves as a foundation to develop a strong contemporary relationship.”
He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with foreign ministers from GCC member countries during his visit. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the deep and multifaceted relationship between India and the GCC, which includes political, trade, investment, energy cooperation, cultural, and people-to-people ties. The GCC region is a significant trading partner for India and hosts around 8.9 million Indian expatriates.
Following his visit to Riyadh, Jaishankar will travel to Germany for a two-day visit from September 10-11 and then proceed to Switzerland.
