Biparjoy, a very powerful cyclone, to intensify and move north: IMD

New Delhi: TheIndia Meteorological Department (IMD) said, the extremely dangerous cyclonic storm Biparjoy would intensify more and proceed in a north-northwesterly direction.

The International Meteorological Department (IMD) stated in a notification that "VSCS BIPARJOY over east-central Arabian Sea, lay centred at 0530hrs IST of 08th June, near lat 13.9N & long 66.0E, about 860km west-southwest of Goa, 910km southwest of Mumbai, would intensify further & move north-northwestwards."

IMD predicted in a previous advisory that the cyclone would gradually intensify over the next 48 hours and move almost north-northwestward during the following three days.

In the east-central Arabian Sea, VSCS BIPARJOY was centred around 2330 IST on June 7, 2023, near latitude 13.6N and longitude 66.0E, roughly 870 kilometres west-southwest of Goa and 930 km southwest of Mumbai. It would progressively get stronger over the next 48 hours and proceed almost north-northwestward over the following three days, according to IMD's tweet.

The IMD earlier warned that fishermen should return to the coast after being cautioned not to enter such cyclone-affected areas in the Arabian Sea.
