The disappearance of gold and silver ornaments from the famous Lord Venkateshwara temple, located on the beautiful hills of Tirumala, has caused a stir. A silver crown weighing about 5 kg and some gold jewelry has disappeared from the treasures of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD). The allegation has been leveled by a former member of the trust and a BJP leader. BJP leader and former trust member Bhanu Prakash Reddy has said that precious jewelry has disappeared amid tight security and has issued documents alleging the scam. On the other hand, he has raised a demand that the TTD should take action against Assistant Executive Officer Srinivasulu. Reddy has sought an inquiry into the case. Speaking to the media in Tirupati, Reddy said that the crowns and gold jewelry donated by the devotees have been missing from the treasures since October 2017. However, TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal said that TTD Vigilance and Accounts Department officials saw a shortage of some silver and gold articles worth about Rs 7 lakh from the treasury two years ago. Thus, an amount of Rs 25,000 was charged every month from the salary of a TTD officer.
