BJP in Tamil Nadu plans to protest march over the Mullaperiyar issue

Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu BJP has accused the DMK-led state government of striking a "secret deal" with Kerala over the Mullaperiyar dam, and has called for a "protest march" to protest the "agreement." Party state president K. Annamalai also condemned the opening of the spillway shutters when the water level was only 136 feet in a statement released on Friday. He said the party would hold a protest march to the Theni district collector's office on Monday to protest the "deal" between the two governments, which he said was against the state's people's interests.

While Tamil Nadu only has the right to open the dam's spillway shutters, Annamalai claims that the Kerala Water Resources and Revenue ministers did so. The spillway shutters were always opened in the presence of a state minister and the Theni district collector in the past, but this time was different. He accused the DMK and its allies, the Communist parties, of betraying the people of five Tamil Nadu districts who rely on the dam's water for their agricultural needs.

S. Duraimurugan, a state minister, was accused by the BJP leader of visiting the dam solely to make "lame excuses" to the people. He stated that the BJP would stage a series of protests against the "secret deal" between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Kerala's CPM-led left-wing government.
