Death of BJP worker in Bengal police custody, questions raised on law and order

Kolkata: A case of death of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker in police custody has come to light on Thursday in North Dinajpur district of West Bengal. The name of the deceased has been stated to be Anup Kumar Roy. Police on Wednesday detained Anoop Kumar on charges of illegal activities. As soon as Anup Kumar was brought to Raiganj police station, his health deteriorated. Soon after, he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The BJP termed the death of its worker as a murder and questioned why the postmortem of the deceased was done within 3 hours at night. The BJP has accused the Bengal Police of harassing Anup Kumar. Bengal BJP president Dilip Ghosh said that no one can think about the police committing such atrocities. Where is the law and order situation of Bengal going? At the same time, the mother of the deceased Anoop Kumar Roy has written a letter to the police raising many questions. Postmortem report has been given to Roy's family.

Anoop's mother said that I suspect that the post-mortem was not done properly, so we do not want the postmortem report prepared illegally. In the same case, SP Sumit Kumar of North Dinajpur said that Anoop Kumar was brought to the police station for questioning in a theft case. Four people have been arrested in this case. SP Sumit Kumar told the media that, Anoop suddenly fell unconscious. We immediately rushed him to the hospital where doctors declared him dead. However, the postmortem report showed that Anoop died of brain hemorrhage.
