Bhubaneswar: 30 employees of different jails in Odisha and more than 500 prisoners tested COVID19 positive. In view of this, the state government has decided that it will be mandatory for every person to undergo a corona test before being produced for remand at the magistrate. The Home Ministry has issued an 8-point Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) by changing the COVID management of the state's prisons.

Departments like police, excise, forest and vigilance will be required to adhere to this SOP. Director General (Jail) S K Upadhyay said, "We have already sent SOP to officers from different jails across the state. The officer further said that since the RT-PCR investigation takes time, the SOP issued by the Home Department has given advice on accelerated antigen testing, which makes the result of the person's investigation come out within an hour".

The SOP further said, "The person will have to be examined by the medical officers before the police, excise, forest or vigilance department officers can appear before the magistrate to remand any person and undergo a medical examination in the prescribed hospital. The medical officer of the prescribed hospital will conduct a thorough examination of the persons who will have to be produced before the magistrate for remand". According to the SOP, the person will be sent to the COVID Care Centre after testing COVID19 positive.
