Nitin Gadkari hits out at BMC on Mumbai flooding

Mumbai: Union Minister and former BJP President Nitin Gadkari has targeted the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for its poor management. He said despite such a huge budget, the city is submerged in every monsoon season. It is also seen as a sniping at his ally Shiv Sena as the BMC has the same power. Nitin Gadkari was speaking after worshipping the land for a mangrove park in Mumbai's Gorai area.

"I have heard that the BMC has a fixed deposit of Rs 58,000 crore. And every year we see on TV that Mumbai is flooded during the monsoon season, roads are flooded. It happens every year. Gadkari said that the amount he has can be used for recycling of wastewater going to sea.

Union Road Transport Minister Gadkari said he has a 'water taxi' project to transport from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region to the navi Mumbai International Airport under construction. He said that in Venice, Italy, people can go directly to the airport by boat from the hotel. I have one such project ready. BMC is the richest body in the country. The BMC has been under Shiv Sena's long-standing occupation. The Shiv Sena-controlled body has often been accused of corruption.
