Assam Election: BPF's Tamulpur candidate Rangja Khungur Basumatari left party!

Guwahati: Assam Congress-led Grand Alliance, Bodoland People's Front (BPF) candidate Rangja Khungur Basumatari from Tamulpur constituency has reportedly resigned from the Hagrama Mohileri-led party. During PM Narendra Modi's rally in Kokrajhar, Rangja Khundur Basumtari is also likely to leave the BJP. There was no whereabouts of the BPF candidate of the Tamulpur assembly constituency since morning.

In the north-east, Assam minister and veteran BJP leader Himanta Biswa Sarma had informed that Rangja Khungur Basumatari alias Ram Das Basumatari had met him. Himanta Biswa Sarma further said that Ranga Khungur Basumatari has also expressed his desire to "retire from the election." In a tweet, Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote that "BPF's official candidate and the so-called Congress led the alliance with Tamulpur. Shri Ram Das Basumatari met me a few moments ago."

It is estimated that 4-5 other candidates of BPF can also change the side. Basumatari cannot officially withdraw his candidature from the Tamulpur seat since the expiry of the time period for withdrawal of nomination papers for the third phase, but due to retiring from the competition, things can be very easy for the UPPL candidate. Polling will be held on 6th April 2021 in the third phase of assembly elections in the Tamulpur assembly constituency.
