NEW DELHI: The Election Commission declared on Friday that a bypoll for one Rajya Sabha seat in Odisha will be held on June 13. Following the resignation of BJD MP Subhas Chandra Singh in April, the seat became vacant. The poll will run from April 24, 2022 through April 24, 2026 for the rest of the time. The poll will be held on June 13 between 9 am. and 4 pm., the Election Commission said, while the notification for this poll will be released on May 26, the final deadline for making nominations is June 2, the scrutiny of nominations is June 3, and the last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 6. The votes will be counted the same evening, starting at 5 pm. The poll panel further stated that all participants must observe the general parameters of ECI's Covid-19 during the entire election process, where appropriate. The Chief Secretary of Odisha has been ordered to appoint a senior officer from the state to ensure that the state's directives on Covid-19 containment measures are followed while preparing for the by-election. The EC also set the dates for the biennial elections for 57 seats across 15 states on May 12, with the votes being counted on June 10. Three seats from Odisha will be up for election among the 57 Rajya Sabha seats.
