Hyderabad: On June 10, elections will be held in 15 states for 57 Rajya Sabha seats, including two in Telangana. While the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) is expected to win both seats, the Akali Dal is expected to lose its Upper House seat, and the BJP's tally will remain below 100 despite recently passing that mark.

Union ministers Piyush Goyal and Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, Congress leaders Ambika Soni, Jairam Ramesh, and Kapil Sibal, and BSP's Satish Chandra Misra are among those who will step down between June 21 and August 1. The retirement of TRS members D. Srinivas and Capt. V. Lakshmikanta Rao on June 21 would result in vacancies in Telangana.

In addition, the Election commission said on May 30 that a bypoll will be held for one Rajya Sabha seat in Telangana to fill the gap left by TRS member Banda Prakash's resignation in December after he was elected MLC under the MLAs' quota. The TRS will also get this seat. K.Chandrashekar Rao, the TRS supremo and Chief Minister, is scheduled to declare the party's candidates for all three seats by May 19.
In the 245-member House, the BJP has 95 members while the Congress has 29. Uttar Pradesh would lose eleven seats, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra will lose six, Bihar will lose five, and Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Karnataka will lose four apiece.

Madhya Pradesh and Odisha each have three members, Telangana, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Jharkhand, and Haryana each have two, while Uttarakhand has one. The BJP is expected to lose seats in Andhra Pradesh, where three members are leaving, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan, but hopes to make up for it in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
Five BJP MPs are among the 11 retiring Rajya Sabha members from Uttar Pradesh, putting the party and its allies in a strong position to gain eight seats, while the opposition Samajwadi Party may keep its three seats.
