Cabinet approval to MoU with Maldives on judicial cooperation

NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, July 20,  the Union Cabinet approved a deal with the Maldives in the area of judicial cooperation that aims to use information technology to digitise courts.

The planned Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Judicial Service Commission of the Maldives is the ninth agreement in the area of judicial cooperation that India and other nations have signed, according to an official release.

According to the release, "This Memorandum of Understanding would give a platform to leverage benefits of Information Technology  for court digitisation and can be a potential growth area for the IT companies and start-ups in both nations."

According to a Cabinet statement, the agreement will offer a framework for utilising the advantages of IT for court digitization and may present a growth opportunity for IT start-ups and corporations in both nations.

It is pertinent to note that, during recent years, the close relationship between India and the Maldives has intensified multi-dimensionally.

The statement said, the agreement would not only allow for information and technological exchange in the judiciary and other legal sectors between the two nations, but it will also further the goals of the "Neighborhood First" programme.

This is the eighth MoU for judicial cooperation between India and other nations.
