New Delhi: The issue of unemployment was also raised during the discussion on the Budget Session by opposition party members in Parliament. In such a situation, the central government told the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that in the first wave of the corona epidemic, i.e. 2020, the number of unemployed people crossed the 3000 mark for the first time. Presenting the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, in a written reply to a question in the Upper House on Wednesday, said that 3,548 people in the country have committed suicide due to unemployment in the first year of the pandemic 2020. In the year 2020, about 1.53 lakh cases were registered in the country, which was close to 1.39 lakh in the year 2019. In a written reply in the Upper House, Nityananda Rai informed that 16,091 cases of suicide were reported between 2018 and 2020 due to debt and bankruptcy in the country. Of these, 4,970 cases were registered in 2018, 5,908 in 2019 and 5,213 suicide cases in 2020. According to NCRB data, cases of suicide due to unemployment were registered in Karnataka (720), Maharashtra (625), Tamil Nadu (336), Assam (234), and Uttar Pradesh (227) in the year 2020. In 2020, Maharashtra's name topped the list with 1,341 deaths in suicides due to debt and bankruptcy. Maharashtra was followed by Karnataka (1,025), Telangana (947), Andhra Pradesh (782) and Tamil Nadu (524).
