In 2017, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had stressed on the use of electric cars to reduce pollution in cities. After which he bought an electric car in November 2017. In his first and subsequent cabinet, he is probably the only minister and MP who uses electric cars to come somewhere in the capital. When Giriraj Singh, the Union Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister in the current government, bought an electric car, he first took it to the BJP headquarters. In his post shared on social media, Giriraj Singh described it as an important initiative in trying to reduce pollution. Their car number is DL 3C AT 0007, which is a VIP number. In the capital, he prefers to do the same despite the problem of charging.

Giriraj Singh is also well aware that there is a problem of electric car charging in the capital right now. However, Lutyen has become some electric car charging stations in Delhi. Giriraj also uses the car only for the Lutyen to move to Delhi, while he uses another vehicle to move out of Lutyens Delhi. However, the car that Giriraj Singh owns is made by Mahindra Company and is named E2O Plus. The ex-showroom is priced at Rs 7.44 lakh, which is subsidized under the Fame-2 scheme to promote electric vehicles. It has a 16kWh batch, which travels up to 140 km in full charge. The company is also offering a 3-year warranty on the car. Earlier, the central government had earlier ordered its ministries to use electric cars to officers. After which the Ministry of Finance has launched the Energy Efficiency Service Ltd. (EESL) bought some electric cars from Tata and Mahindra. The officers, who used it for some time, later expressed their inability to do so.

For your information, the officials argued that one of the reasons why electric vehicles were not used was the poor performance of the car and the low battery range. Once on full-charging, Tata Tigor Electric and Mahindra e-Verito run only 80-82 km, he said. The batteries, according to the Global Standard, are not of enough capacity. During that time, the global standard 27-35kWh battery is provided in both cars.
