New Delhi: There is going to be a big fall in the prices of petrol and diesel in the coming times. Yes, according to the information received recently, the central government is preparing to bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of Goods and Services Tax (GST). Actually, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has given this information. Recently, Union Minister Hardeep Puri said that 'Consent of the states is necessary to bring petrol and diesel under the ambit of GST and if the states take initiative in this direction, then the Center is also ready for it.' Apart from this, he also said- 'We have already been prepared for this. This is my understanding. However, the second issue is how to implement it. That question should be taken up with the Finance Minister.' Let us tell you that the demand for bringing petrol and diesel under the purview of GST has been going on for a long time and in the midst of this demand, the Petroleum Minister expressed the apprehension that there is little possibility of agreement between the states. In fact, he said that the main source of revenue of the states is the tax on liquor and petroleum products. Along with this, he also says that "It is not difficult to understand that the states get their revenue from them. Why would the revenue receiver want to leave it? Only the central government is concerned about inflation and other things.'' During this, referring to the decision of the Kerala High Court, he said that the matter was suggested to be taken up in the GST Council but the finance ministers of the states did not agree to it. At the same time, when asked about the possibility of a fall in the prices of petrol and diesel, Hardeep Puri said, "I am surprised by your question. In the last one year, the lowest increase in their prices has probably happened in India only. Morgan Stanley is also saying that India has been in one of the best positions in the world.'' He further said, 'India has protected itself from the impact of rising crude oil prices by taking steps like reduction in excise duty. I do not answer hypothetical questions, but the effort of the central government will be that the prices remain stable.'
