SUKMA: At least four Naxals are alleged to have been injured on Saturday in a confrontation with security personnel in the Sukma region of Chhattisgarh, but their comrades were able to take them into a woodland hideout, an official stated. The encounter happened this morning close to Regadgatta village while a joint District Reserve Guard (DRG) team of police was out on an anti-naxal operation, Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavhan said. He said, the operation was started based on information about the presence of Konta area committee of Maoists member and Naxalite commander Mangdu and his crew in the villages of Maraiguda and Regadgatta. The naxalites triggered fire on the patrolling team, following which the gunbattle broke out, he said. Following a brief exchange of fire, the naxalites escaped into dense forest. About 3 to 4 naxalites were reported to be injured during the gunfight, but their colleagues managed to drag them inside the forest, he said. A search operation was underway in the area he added.
