Former England captain Claire Conor is going to become the first female president in the 233-year history of the Merrillbone Cricket Club (MCC) to replace Sri Lanka's Kumar Sangakkara. Sangakkara, the first non-British president of the MCC, nominated Conor through a video conference from Sri Lanka during the general meeting held on Wednesday. According to AFP report, Conor will take office on October 1 next year but approval of club members is required first. Sangakkara's tenure was extended by a year due to the corona virus epidemic. Conor said, "I am very happy to be nominated for the next MCC President's post. Cricket has given me a lot and now this honor. "He said," We need to look back for how much we have come so many times. I came to Lord's for the first time as a nine-year-old girl obsessed with cricket and looking around, when women were not welcome in the long form (of the pavilion). Claire Conor will assume the post of MCC President in October 2021: Connor, currently the President of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), will take over the post of MCC President from 1 October 2021 after the permission of the members. Normally, the post of president of MCC remains for one year but due to the corona virus epidemic, Sangakkara's tenure has been extended for 12 months. Till 1998, women members were not allowed in the MCC, which owns Lord's Cricket, but after that the members allowed it through voting. Earlier, only Queen Elizabeth II of Britain was among the few women who were allowed to enter the Lord's Pavilion. Meanwhile, Sangakkara said that she is "thrilled" by Conor's latest cricket appointment, the Sri Lankan veteran said: 'The club has an important role in cricket's global appeal and from their influence, I am sure she will contribute greatly to MCC .
