Gandhi family is not giving value to Sidhu after defeat in Punjab, search for new state president begins

Amritsar: The Congress, which lost power by winning just 18 seats in the Punjab assembly elections, is set to start a period of change soon. Charanjit Singh Channi, who was the CM of Punjab, had lost the elections from both the seats, while Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was in the news for his statements, himself had to face defeat from the Amritsar East seat. Following the results, Sonia Gandhi had demanded the resignation of state Congress unit president Navjot Singh Sidhu.

After which, Sidhu also resigned in one line by writing that as Sonia Gandhi wants, I am resigning. It is being told that Congress is now trying to end the chapter of tension between Charanjit Singh Channi and Navjot Singh Sidhu, which had to bear the brunt of the defeat. Even though the assembly elections in the state will now be held after five years, Congress is worried about the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The tussle is being tightened to win 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state and an alternative to Navjot Singh Sidhu is being explored.

At present, the names of MPs Ravneet Bittoo and Chaudhary Santokh Singh are among the names sent by the State Committee for the new state president of Punjab. Mlas from Gidderbaha, Amrinder Raja Wading and Sukhjinder Randhawa are also in the race. However, Navjot Sidhu is seeking the post of president for the second time. Even in the past, he had tried to show strength by holding a meeting with 24 leaders of Congress. MLA Partap Singh Bajwa, who has returned to Punjab's politics, has also staked a claim in gestures.
